Janitors

Janitors ensure that buildings and grounds are clean and well-kept. They often perform maintenance duties in addition to disinfecting surfaces, mopping and sweeping floors, and removing trash. 

How to Write a Summary for a Janitor

  1. Mention your previous experience. Did you work as a TA for a class during your college experience? Were you a peer tutor? 
  2. Describe your greatest strength. Are you patient? Do you love sharing knowledge?
  3. Explain what you’re eager to accomplish in the next stage of your career. Are you looking to work with preschoolers? Do you prefer engaging with high school students?

Senior Level Work Experience as a Janitor

  • Picked up litter within the schools and on school grounds in order to ensure a beautiful and productive learning environment
  • Assured safety during inclement weather to include shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, and snow removal from roofs
  • Applied cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures
  • Adhered to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment
  • Performed minor repair and maintenance as authorized by district maintenance staff
  • Removed extraneous dirt and markings from interior and exterior surfaces (walls, doors, etc.).

Janitors do not require any formal education, although some employers may prefer that you have a high school diploma or GED. Furthermore, if you’re interested in doing repairs or mechanic work, courses or experience in these areas can prove useful.
